How-to-Guide
Videos
Brightcove Hosting
- All videos for HP.com websites should be hosted on BrightCove whenever possible. The BrightCove video player should be used as the prefered player whenever possible. The BrightCove video player API may be used to configure videos to play according to our interactivity requirements and design, since it has very extensive configurability for pixel size of the player, responsive sizing of the player, controls, etc.
YouTube Hosting
- YouTube video hosting is also permitted by HP.com. The videos should be hosted on a supported HP channel. Any questions should be answered by the Business stakeholder. These videos will play in a standard YouTube web page with all the standard YouTube page content and video features.
Preparing Your Video
Your video should be produced in a high-definition format, as close to master quality as possible. This will give you maximum flexibility in how your video is used. Videos should be placed in the HP asset repository, the Media Bin Digital Gallery and may be needed in the future for translation, display at venues, etc.
Video Requirements
- High Definition (HD), minimum 720p (1280 x 720). 1080p (1920 x 1080 ) is recommended
- A minimum bit rate of 5 MB per second for 720p (8 MBps for 1080p). Higher is recommended
- A minimum frame rate of 24, 25, or 30 frames per second
- Aspect ratio of 16:9. Video needs to fill the entire space. Do not use a 4:3 on screen in a 16:9 file
- Non-interlaced is very strongly encouraged. Brightcove for HP.com videos will technically support interlacing. But the quality of the conversion may be greatly reduced. It is not recommended and may result in not being able to host your video.
- Render video in the same frame rate in which the video was filmed
Not Permitted

- These formats can cause problems and are discouraged: FLV (Flash 7), F4V, MXF, GXF, and LXF
